PhD Student Positions in Climate Science
The Climate Dynamics and Prediction Lab at the University of Texas at Dallas is seeking one highly motivated PhD student, with start dates of Spring 2027 or Fall 2027. Full funding is available through Research or Teaching Assistantships.
Research Focus
The lab investigates ocean-atmosphere coupled processes, with three primary areas:
- Ocean-atmosphere interactions examining variability, changes, predictability, and impacts
- Development of seamless Earth system predictions across seasonal to decadal timescales
- Climate model improvements using hierarchical modeling, observational data, and paleoclimate records
Required Qualifications
- A strong interest in climate variability and change, climate prediction and modeling
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in atmospheric sciences, oceanography, environmental science, Earth sciences, physics, mathematics, or computer science
- Programming proficiency (Python, MATLAB, NCL, or R) and data analysis skills preferred
Application Process
Contact Dr. Xian Wu at xian.wu@utdallas.edu with a CV, transcripts, and a background statement, before formally applying through the Geosciences PhD program.
